Coach Metcalf RETIRES (5/11/22)

After 47 years of coaching high school baseball, the past 41 at my Alma Mater, Sarasota High, I have decided to step down as the Head Baseball Coach.

My family and I would like to thank every individual that took part in this journey. To the players, it was truly an honor to play a small role in your development as a ballplayer and person. I will always be grateful for your effort and dedication to our program. To my coaches, thank you for your help and expertise and more importantly your friendship. To the parents, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your son's life. Finally, to the staff and administration at Sarasota High and the Sarasota community, thank you for your support.

This was a difficult decision for me to make. The time commitment to workouts, practices and games has not allowed me uninterrupted time with my family and friends, which has become a greater priority for me.

I want to thank my wife, Jan, our children Mike, Jackie, and Robyn for their never-ending support, which has allowed me to chase my dreams.

I will cherish my lifetime of memories and look forward to following Sarasota High Baseball in the future...Go Sailors!

Sincerely, Coach Metcalf

ALUMNI: Gennett giving back as coach of the Sarasota 13-year-old All-Stars (6/19/21)
If that first base coach for Sarasota’s 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars looks familiar, it should come as no surprise. After all, he’s the same guy who crushed four home runs playing for the Cincinnati Reds against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 6, 2017, at the Great American Ball Park, to become only the 17th player in Major League Baseball history to do so. Of course, he’s also the same player who won a state championship as a sophomore at Sarasota High, as well, as making it to a region tournament championship game in Tallahassee as a 15-year-old Sarasota Babe Ruth All-Star

ALUMNI: Hard work turns former Sarasota Sailor Brown into a Giant at the plate (7/14/21)
For most baseball players in 2020, COVID-19 dealt a double whammy. Seasons were shorted or cancelled, at every level, and for those without major-league pedigree, lost were opportunities to improve and advance. Then there was former Sarasota Sailor center fielder Vaun Brown, who used the extra season provided by the pandemic at Florida Southern College to shake the virus from his bat and become the 10th-round pick of the San Francisco Giants in this year’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft
