Sarasota watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 9-1 loss to Venice on Thursday. Venice scored on a single by Cole Schumaker, a single by Aiden Beechy, a triple by Michael Robertson, and a single by John Whitney in the second inning.
Sarasota struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Venice, giving up nine runs.
Beechy earned the win for Venice lasting four innings, allowing two hits and one run while walking zero. A number of pitchers entered the game as relief, with David Morgan, Joseph Rafaniello, Cole Starck, and Douglas Schapley all securing outs and ultimately the victory.
Jaxson Crump took the loss for Sarasota. The right-hander lasted one and one-third innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out one and walking one.
Conner Whittaker led Sarasota with two hits in two at bats.
Venice saw the ball well today, racking up 14 hits in the game. Schumaker, Whitney, Marek Houston, and Colin Blazek each had multiple hits for Venice. Schumaker went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Venice in hits.
